The Cooloola Great Walk is a 102 kilometres coastal bushwalking route in the Great Sandy National Park of South East Queensland. It’s a 5-day hike along coastal tracks linking Noosa North Shore with Rainbow Beach.
Walking through the lands of the local Gubbi Gubbi people, you are rewarded with birdsong and sweeping views of the Cooloola coastline. The track winds its way through coastal acacia, tall eucalypt forest, rainforest and heath plains.
There are some longer days and the patches of soft sand with the heavy pack can be tiring but all in all it is not a strenuous hike for experienced hikers. It is a well-maintained track that leads you to the four walkers camps with tank water and eco toilets. Your home for the night to relax under the stars.
If tackling this under your own steam you definitely need to have previous experience with multi-day pack-carrying hikes. You will need to apply for camping permits and be well prepared for the challenge. Alternatively, there are options for just carrying a day pack and joining a group on this stunning hike. Either way this is a great chance to reset, breathe deeply and connect with the sights and sounds of the coastal Aussie bush.
